Q: I’m writing because I’ve been working as a stripper for some time and am considering migrating from that branch of sex work into working as a pro domme. I was wondering if you know the average income for a pro domme or where I might be able to find that out. I’m sure there’s a fair amount of variation depending on experience, marketing skills, etc. I’m just curious about a ballpark figure so I can figure out if I can afford to live on the income domming would generation.

A: As you alluded to in your question an accurate estimate of incomes for pro domme services vary widely based on several factors including your geographic location, the economy, and the environment or establishment where you provide your services, in addition to the ones you already mentioned. Without knowing more information we can only guess at a range of hourly rates you might expect.

It might be more useful for you to do some research in your vicinity and in real time by searching the local community newspapers and internet advertising services such as Craigslist for services similar to the ones you are considering. This type of market research is fairly easy and very effective too. Even better would be to ask someone you know who is already providing these services about what their rates are and what they provide for those rates.

Sometimes the best way to get started in the pro domme business is to train or intern with an already established worker for a period of time. In fact, this is a common practice in the industry as many houses that offer these services have internship programs.

You might check out mypinkbook.com forums for some answers. Some of the users there are dommes, some are escorts, some are masseuses.

Q: Is there a market for women wanting to provide sexual services exclusively for other women?

How would the price for the service compare with that of sexual services provided for men by women?

How does the price of sexual services by men for other men compare with similar services by women for men?

I have not heard of there being much of a market for sexual services for women besides the old fashion gigolo type of service and I am not familiar with where to find this type of information. Any help with this would be appreciated.

A: Sure, there is a market for women providing sexual services for other women. This market is probably quite small, but it does exist.

You might want to contact the Lusty Lady to discuss pricing. They’re a worker-owned, co-op, strip club that specializes in catering to female clientele (though they serve all genders). They might be able to discuss that in more depth with you or your friend. You could also always check out Craigslist just to get a sense of what’s being offered, and at what price.

Another option you might consider is checking out mypinkbook.com. A lot of the questions deal with male-related issues, but I’m sure you or your friend could get information about female-female sex work.

Q: I am considering trying escort/sex work, and I’m not sure where to start. A good friend of mine is doing a great job of working for herself through online ad sites, while maintaining safety and sex-positivity. I’m not sure if I should gain experience through an agency first, or if any safer, sex-positive ones even exist. Please help.

A: Thanks for your question! A good way to start is simply by getting involved with some online sex work communities. These communities will allow you to get more of a “feel” for the industry, and may even help you decide whether the online ad website or agency route is right for you. There are obvious advantages to both ways (online = autonomy, keeping everything you earn; agency= safety in numbers, instant community), but the choice will ultimately depend upon what is right for your
personal needs.

We don’t know offhand of any sex-positive agencies, but other sex workers (who can be found in the forums) will likely be able to. We think you’ll find that many of these groups are definitely feminist and sex-positive:

Sex Workers Outreach Project – sex worker community, blogs, news, etc.

Prostitutes’ Education Network. – Scroll all the way down. There are TONS of links by sex workers, for and about the industry.

MyPinkbook.com – A lengthy forum with resources and tips.

Hopefully this is helpful!
